Spring Stewardship Weekend

05/17/2024 02:00 PM - 05/19/2024 02:00 PM PT

Description

May 17th - 19th 2024

Friends of Malheur NWR volunteers are critical to helping us meet our mission of conserving the natural and cultural resources of the Refuge.

We need a minimum of 10 volunteers to sign up and we hope that YOU will be one of them!

Plans include assemby of a Pavillion at the new Volunteer Campground, transplanting native grasses into the privacy screens, and work on a footopath to the common room. We will weed any areas needing it and possibly move picnic tables to site. After this work is completed the new campground will be ready for use!

Additionally, we will work on cleaning and improving the beds bordering the Crane's Nest Nature Center & Store. This will include removing weeds and adding to the plant communities there. In preparation of a future informational kiosk near the Nature Center we will clear a space for future xeriscaping and installation. This will require placing landscape cloth and gravel on cleared areas.

Lastly we will continue the habitat improvement around the Nature Center by weeding the pollinator garden, install bird bath dishes, and adding rocks where needed to protect great basin wild rye.

Housing at the Malheur Field Station, Dorm A, provided by the Friends of Malheur.
